Travelin' On

Travelin' on now
Away
Travelin' on now
Going my way
Travelin' on now
Somehow
Right now
Movin' along now
Find my place
Movin' along now
Set a new pace
Movin' along now
Somehow
Right now
I'm on my own
All alone
Time to make
A new home
I'm on my way
Make a place to stay
Looking up
To a new day
Instrumental
Movin' along now
Let go the old
Movin' along now
Make a new mold
Movin' along now
Somehow
Right now

The Legend of Nightfall

The Legend of Nightfall
Lyric ©1993 by Mickey Zucker Reichert
Music ©1998 by Steve Macdonald
A demon wakens with the night,
Reviling sun and all things bright.
Evil's friend and virtue's foe-
Darkness comes where Nightfall goes.
Eyes darker than the midnight shade,
Teeth sharper than the headsman's blade.
When he smiles a cold wind blows-
Darkness comes where Nightfall goes.
When shadows fall and sunlight breaks,
What Nightfall touches, Nightfall takes.
Lives and silver, maids in bows-
Darkness comes where Nightfall goes.
A demon cruel; a monster stark,
Grim moonlight, deepest dark.
Nightmares come to those who doze-
In darkness where old Nightfall goes.
Nightfall laughs, and death's ax falls.
Hell opens wide and swallows all.
He rules the depths where no light shows-
Darkness comes where Nightfall goes.
Lock up your children after dark,
Lest Nightfall find an easy mark.
For safety ends at twilight's close-
And darkness comes where Nightfall goes.
Razor claws and fiery eyes,
Leathern wings to cleave the skies.
His soul within stark midnight froze-
Darkness comes where Nightfall goes.
Counting years like grains of sand.
Countless fall beneath his hand.
Time, his minion; night, his clothes-
Darkness comes where Nightfall goes.
Birthed within the black abyss,
His silent gift, a deadly kiss.
Gone before the rooster crows-
Darkness comes where Nightfall goes.
Wolves and bats and beasts of night,
Spirits black that flee the light,
Cringed in fear when he arose-
Darkness comes where Nightfall goes.
He feeds on elders and children,
On soldiers, kings, and beggarmen.
He never stops and never slows-
Darkness comes where Nightfall goes.
The Evil One, the demon blight
Who hides in day and stalks the night.
He steals the stars and drags them low-
Darkness comes where Nightfall goes.

I am not alone.
I see
sunlight gleaming
On your shoulders
Moonlight glows
Within your eyes.
Wings so slender
Thoughts so near
Yet we're earthbound
Queens don't fly
I want to fly higher and higher
Soar to the stars
Higher and higher
Yes we'll go far
And I know that they say
We'll never fly this way
I want to float higher and higher
Fly to catch that ray.
The blue above us
Calls us to wing
Float over Hold and Craft
Hear breezes sing
But hidebound studies
Keep us secure
Ignore the tapestries
Queens don't fly
I want to fly higher and higher
Soar to the stars
Higher and higher
Yes we'll go far
And I know that they say
We'll never fly this way
I want to fly higher and higher
Fly to catch that ray.
Soar upon the wings of fate
Challenge time
Burst all the bonds they make
The sky is mine
Now we'll fly higher and higher
Soar to the stars
Higher and higher
Yes we'll go far
And we've only begun
To make our run
And we'll fly higher and higher
Fly until we've won
Fly until we've won
Soar until we've won.

Hush
©1996 Steven Macdonald
Hush
Feel it in the air
As winter melts away
Soft green appears
In glens and dales
New life a-borning.
Hush
Feel it in the air
As waiting melts away
A call for joy
A new baby's cry-
New life a-borning.
Can you feel the breath around you?
Can you see wondrous souls in flight?
Hush
Feel it in the air
As the ground past slips away.
The fresh breath of wind
The cool kiss of cloud
New flight a-winging.
Hush
Feel it in the air
The cathedral of the Green.
A quick flash of wing
Hooves hit the ground
New flight a-winging.
Can you feel the breath around you?
Can you see wondrous souls in flight?
Can you hear the chorus in union?
Hush
Feel it in the air
All anger melts away
The fresh breath of song
Join the Circle, 'round
New life a-winging.
Can you feel the breath around you?
Can you see wondrous souls in flight?
Can you hear the chorus in union?
Then you'll feel
Magic

When I Was A Boy

When I Was A Boy
Copyright © 1997 by Frank Hayes, Firebird Arts & Music (BMI)
When I was a boy our Nintendo
Was carved from an old Apple tree
And we used garden hose to connect it
To our steam-powered color tv.
But it still beat that ancient Atari
'Cuz I almost went blind, don'tcha know,
Playing Breakout and Pong on a video game
Hooked up to the radio.
And we walked twenty miles to the schoolhouse
Barefoot, uphill both ways,
Through blizzards in summer and winter
Back in the good old days.
Back when Fortran was not even Three-tran
And the PC was only a toy
And we did our computing by gaslight
When I was a boy.
When I was a boy all our networks
Were for hauling in fish from the sea--
Our bawd rate was eight bits an hour (and she was worth it!),
And our IP address was just 3.
And you kids who complain that the World Wide Web
Is too slow oughtta cut out your bitchin',
'Cuz when I was a boy every packet
Was delivered by carrier pigeon
And we walked twenty miles to the schoolhouse
Barefoot, uphill both ways,
Through blizzards in summer and winter
Back in the good old days.
Back when Fortran was not even Two-tran
And the mainframe was only a toy
And we did our computing by torchlight
When I was a boy.
When I was a boy our IS shop
Built relational tables from wood,
And we wrappered our data in oilcloth
To preserve it the best that we could.
And we carried our bits in a bucket,
And our mainframe weighed 900 tons,
And we programmed in ones and in zeros
And sometimes we ran out of ones.
And we walked twenty miles to the schoolhouse
Barefoot, uphill both ways,
Through blizzards in summer and winter
Back in the good old days.
Back when Fortran was not even One-tran
And the abacus? Only a toy!
And we did our computing in primordial darkness
When I was a boy.

Pulse
©1998 Steven Macdonald
Feelin' this way again
Lookin' all around my friend
Standing on the peak
Clouds down below
Feelin' this way again
Hopin' it never ends
The climb was long
But I can see for miles
I can feel the sunrise
On your lovely face
Feel the warmth
Of children's embrace
Feel the music
Pulse - leaving a trace
Feelin' this way again
Look about you my friend
The fog will clear
You can climb up
Feelin' this way again
Hope it never ends
The climb is hard
But it can be done
I can feel the sunrise
On your lovely face
Feel the warmth
Of children's embrace
Feel the music
Pulse - leaving a trace
Of you
Feelin' this way again
The road goes on my friend
Keep climbing up
You won't be alone
Feelin' this way again
Hearts can mend
I can feel you here
Even though miles away
I can feel the sunrise
On your lovely face
Feel the warmth
Of children's embrace
Feel the music
Pulse - leaving a trace
Of you
mmmmmmmm yeah
uh huh
feelin' this way again
ohhh
come along my friend....

Come Hither
©1997 Steven Macdonald
She walks out of the room
Highlights in her hair
Throws a look over her shoulder
Sets foot on the stair
Sayin' "Come hither
Come hither my man
Come here babe
Follow if you can."
Then she flounces up the stairs
That husky tone in her voice
Turns the corner with a tease and a call
Come on make your choice
Refrain
Bridge
We been together for years and years
I'm still amazed to see
That even after all this time
The things she does to me
I find her up in our bedroom
Wearing shoes and a smile
And I know without being told
Won't see the kids for awhile

Dutchman
©1997 Steven Macdonald
It's a dark and storm-tossed sea
Sailing forth bravely my captain and me
Fine misty spray obscures my sight
Rounding the cape will sure be a fight
The topman calls out "There's rocks to the port!"
The wind answers back a haunting retort
The captain sets his sights "Turn starb'd" he wails
Lightning flashes- gales tear at the sails
Thunder rolls; the captain, he vows
I'll fight God and the Devil himself-
'til Doomsday to cross the cape
I won't be denied
And I dare any force from Heaven or Hell
to stand in my way.
Chorus
Sails of blood red
Ride over the waves
Mark the watery death
And your graves
Beware the captain who dares
Go where men should not go
And be damned to sail for all time
Down below
Don't forget this tale that I tell
You can hear his soul cry--
Instrumental
Just as he cried
I was washed overboard
Then the wrath of God himself
came upon them all
And I saw-
The rocks, the water the light
the sound- and the blood.
Chorus
Don't sail past the cape
He's lying in wait
Add souls to his crew
He'd take me, he'd take you-
He begs for release
Ship flies on the seas
It's a damned, damned ship
It's a damned, damned crew

In A Quiet Moment

In A Quiet Moment
©1996 Steven Macdonald
In a quiet moment of reflective thought
I sit here and wonder over what we've fought
The trials, the storms; upheavals-
The rocky road to come.
And in a quiet moment, I think of what we've done.
In a quiet moment, I think about the pain.
The loneliness, frustration. It goes against my grain.
The suddenness of conflict
The hurting in the fall.
And in a quiet moment, I think about it all.
But life is more than pain or fear-
They're just stops along the road.
Travel on beyond the storm-
There's Light that we can hold.
Instrumental
In a quiet moment of reflective thought
I sit here and ponder over what we've sought.
All we really cherish
Must be birthed by trial.
And in a quiet moment- let's go walk that mile.

Palms
©1998 Steven Macdonald
On the long Jerusalem highway
In the light of coming day
Fulfill the prophecy - on donkey and calf
To enter the city - the first becomes last
The Palms, the Palms
All creation joins the song
Spread your cloak and help along
The King is coming-
At the gates of Jerusalem that day
He entered the city this way
'Hosanna in the highest' the crowd did call
The Kingdom of David has returned to us all
The Palms, the Palms
All creation joins the song
Spread your cloak and help along
The King is coming- spread the Palms
Bridge
The Lord is God
Make his light so shine
With boughs in hand
Join the festival!
Blessed is He who comes
His Love lasts forever
The Lord is God
Hosanna!
He spoke in Jerusalem that day
All heard who came this way
"The stone once rejected - is the new foundation
The Kingdom is coming- the first in all nations"
The Palms, the Palms
All creation joins the song
Spread your cloak and help along
The King is coming-
On the long Jerusalem highway

Searching for the Frontier
©1998 Steven Macdonald
Going out and seeking land for us all
Journey through the vastness of space
Time to hit that C Plus wall
We must go to save our race
Refrain
Searching for the frontier now
We'll get out there, somehow
Searching for the frontier now
Doctor Bussard helped to give us a dream
A ramjet to build up speed
Or we set up a rigging and sail
Solar wind can carry us- we won't fail
Refrain
Bridge
Hyperdrive could still be our way out
Folding space cheats relativity now
Doc Smith talked about inertialessness
Doesn't matter how we go; we gotta meet the test
Instrumental
Refrain
Making our first solid steps into space
Establishing a lunar base
Freedom will wait for us all
Listen- can't you hear the call
Refrain x2

What I Know
©1998 Steven Macdonald
What am I going to do?
The illusions I live by
Are all through
I know I need more time
I know I need more time
What do I do, where do I go?
Friends would take me
I know
I know I need more time
I know I need more time
Chorus
I need time to heal
I need time to grow
I need time to find out what I know
I need time to feel
I need time to know
I need time
To find the Time to go....
So many places I can be
But only one that I want
Can't you see?
I know I need more time
But home is home no longer
Chorus
How do I go from here?
Relieve the stress
Pain and fear?
Home is home no more
The sands of Time have run out
on the floor....
Chorus
I need time to heal
I need time to grow
I need time- but time's all gone, I know
I need time to feel
I need time to know
I need time
To find the Time to go....
I need time
To find the Time to go....
No more time....
It's Time to go....

Reap the Wind
©1998 Steven Macdonald
You walk out the door
With anger in your heart
I demand too much, you feel
As you turn the key and start
I sit back unknowing what
I've planted in your breast
The seeds of chaos that will
Grow as I rest.
You sow the storm
You reap the wind
I walk out of our door
Not knowing what I've done
Your cries for help are heard
But rarely acted on
The seeds I've sown have
Taken root and grown
Is this how all things end?
Are we on our own?
You sow the storm
You reap the wind
Chorus
And the wind howls through
like a Demon in the night
Every minute lasts
an hour 'til daylight
Every touch turns to dust
Everything of Light has lost
it's Power.
And the wind howls through
you, shattering your Soul
No part of you will
remain whole
To last you must
hold on to all you're worth
For that is all you have to hold
You can't hold the wind.
Far too many years
Have passed along this way
You have always asked for love
And I don't know what to say
I feel you're always here
We'll always be as One
Feeding the chaos seeds
That grow as time goes on
You sow the storm
You reap the wind
Instrumental
I walk in through our door
To make a brand new start
You're body's here with me
But I've misplaced your heart
I walk in shadows
I feel now most alone
With a hole here in my heart
That is now all I own
I sow the storm
I reap the wind
Chorus

Believe
©1997 Steven Macdonald
You learn what you need / to say
As you wander on / life's way
Travel on that road / wander on
The journey is the goal / you're the song
Instrumental
Believe in who you are / find your why
Then speak from your heart / don't be shy
Others may have your why / let them pull you on
Yet you have your own voice / sing your song
Believe in your heart and your soul / within your song
Someone needs you now / pull them on
If you stay silent / they'll never know
Stand Sing your song / Watch it grow
If you stay silent / they'll never know
Stand Be your song / Make it grow
If you stay silent / they'll never know
Stand Be your song / Make it grow
Stand
Be your song
Make it...
Grow
